All full-time employees are eligible for most benefits (see individual benefits for other requirements) immediately upon their employment. All part-time employees must work for a period of one (1) calendar year and have, at the end of that year, accumulated a minimum of 1,000 employment hours to be eligible for benefits at their expense during subsequent employment periods.

Additional policies for special coverage, e.g. cancer or intensive care, are also available to employees through an arrangement with AFLAC at the employee's expense. The Vice President of Finance and Administration will explain the various policies at your request.
All full-time staff/faculty members are eligible to participate in the Guardian Dental and Vision (VSP) plan.Cost for employees is paid in full by MCA. Dependent or family coverage is available to the employee for an additional charge.
After a staff member has been employed for a period of one continuous calendar year, they are automatically enrolled in a long-term disability insurance program offered through Jefferson Pilot. Specific coverage is based on the employee's annual salary. All premiums for this coverage are paid by MCA. Benefits are payable on the first day of the calendar month following three months of continuous total disability.
Full-time faculty & staff are also eligible to enroll in the group life insurance plan offered through Jefferson Pilot Insurance Company. Life insurance would be paid at a rate of one and one-half times the employee’s salary up to a limited cap imposed by the carrier. All premiums are paid by MCA.
All full-time staff/faculty members are eligible to participate in the Tennessee Independent Colleges and Universities Benefit Consortium, Inc. Health Plan, the cost for employees is $50 per month the remainder is paid by MCA. Dependent or family coverage is available to the employee for an additional charge. (Please see Benefit Summary Chart for cost.) Coverage must be selected within thirty days of the date of hire or the employee cannot enroll until the open enrollment period at the end of the plan year. Coverage begins on the first of the month after date of hire. The health plan year runs from May 1 – April 30. MCA provides full-time faculty & staff members the opportunity
to join the retirement program of the Teacher's Insurance Annuities
Agency/College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA/CREF) under the following
provisions:
If a staff member comes to MCA with membership in the TIAA program, eligibility
for continuation will be immediate. Otherwise, employees are not
eligible to participate until they have been employed by the College
for one continuous calendar year.
Once an employee is enrolled in the program, MCA contributes an amount
equivalent to 5% of the individual's annual salary. The employee
is required to match this contribution via payroll deductions. Additional
payroll deductions for retirement annuities are available to employees
by arrangement with the Business Office
The college offers flex savings accounts for medical and dependent care reimbursements. These funds are deducted from your paycheck monthly pre-tax and can be used immediately to pay medical, dental, prescription, a number of over the counter, and dependent care expenses. If the total amount deposited does not get spent however the employee loses the balance of the funds. Ask the Human Resource representative for more information.
All employees are covered by workers' compensation insurance maintained by MCA through Traveler's Insurance Company. Should an employee become injured while on the job, both his/her immediate supervisor and the College Business Office should be notified as soon as possible. MCA will file a report of injury with the carrier and the State of Tennessee.
