At first it may seem a little scary choosing the field of visual art for
a living.
Here at Memphis College of Art, we think it’s even scarier
to do something for a living that doesn’t make you happy, rather
than doing what you love: making art! That’s why the Department of
Career Services is committed to making sure that you end up following both
your head and your heart in the direction your experience at MCA leads
you. And we know how to help you do just that-–in fact, over 75%
of our alumni with whom we’ve corresponded work in art-related fields.
They range from curators and art therapists to college professors and principal
designers at their own design firms. They’re medical photographers,
sculptors, interior designers, painters, potters and movie company vice
presidents. They’re doing fine financially. And most importantly,
they’re doing what they want.
Of course, we also like to think that the numerous and diverse programs the Department of Career Services offers has something to do with the success of MCA alumni’s placement rate. On-campus interviewing, internships, career counseling and advising, graduate school workshops, the Career Fair and our for-credit Professional Practices course are just a sampling of the services and opportunities available to our students throughout the year.
At MCA, our commitment to excellence inside the classroom is only matched by our dedication to all aspects of our students’ artistic and personal growth outside the classroom; helping you find a way to do what you love for a living is no exception.
