With deep historical roots, ceramics has emerged as
a contemporary medium with diverse possibilities.
SC 120 Introduction to Ceramics.
Ceramics as a fine art
medium is introduced. Building methods such as pinch, coil,
carve-out, slab, and the wheel formed cylinder are covered
and explored through
assignments. Glazing and firing methods are explored.

SC 220 Intermediate Ceramics Workshop 1.
Specific design
problems are assigned in the context of particular ceramic
processes such as low temperature clays and glazes, raku,
salt-firing, and stoneware. Students are encouraged to fire
kilns with the assistance of the instructor.

and techniques. Emphasis is placed on research and individual
artistic development. Students are required to set up a semester
problem of their own choosing.
