METALWORK : FINE ARTS

With the highest standards of content and craft, the Metalsmithing concentration at Memphis College of Art offers the breadth and depth to develop the skills required for this technical and aesthetic study. Metal sculpture, hollowware, and jewelry making are the focus of the curriculum designed to encourage creative problem solving with artistic confidence and independence.

SC 150 Introduction to Metalsmithing.

The materials, tooling and processes involved in the creation of small sculptural units, body ornamentation and utilitarian objects are introduced. Processes such as lost wax casting, metal forming, surfacing and finishing
options are investigated.

Prerequisite: None

SC 250 Intermediate Metals Workshop 1.

Emphasis is placed on personal direction and process awareness. Self-directed projects refine metalsmithing skills as processes such as advanced metal forming, repousse, chasing, tool-making, joining and finishing are explored.

Prerequisite: All foundation courses, SC 150
