PT 110 Painting 1.
The materials and techniques of painting
and the study of contemporary and historical painters are
covered in this introductory course.
Prerequisite: None
PT 120 Painting 2.
Painting 2 is a continuation
of Painting 1 with a greater emphasis on color, serial assignments,
and contemporary issues in painting.
Prerequisite: PT 110
PT 210 Painting 3.
Color, concepts, and
more complex thematic developments are addressed along with
contemporary issues and painters.
Prerequisite: PT 120
PT 221 Collage.
Found materials are used to explore problems
in composition, concepts and self-expression.
Prerequisite:
PT 120
PT 240 Watercolor.
Transparent and opaque watercolor
techniques, including wash and dry brush, ink and watercolor,
and mixed media are explored. The development of skills and expressive
use of the medium are emphasized.
Prerequisite: PT 110
PT310 Painting 4.
Thematic development and individual problems
are addressed through the subjects of figure and abstract
painting.
Prerequisite: PT 210, DW 200
PT320 Painting 5.
Thematic development
and individual problems are addressed through the subjects
of still life and landscape painting. Students are expected
to develop more difficult and complex individual problems.
Prerequisite: PT 310
PT 400 Senior Painting Seminar.
Guidance
is directed toward individual projects and concerns. Weekly
critiques and discussions of historic and contemporary movements
in art sharpen the student’s conceptual and critical
awareness.
Prerequisite: 15 credits in painting and Senior
standing or permission of instructor
