A common thread weaves tenaciously throughout the mission of Memphis College of Art; dedication to the excellence in art and design education and commitment to making visual arts education widely accessible. The generous contributions of alumni, parents, faculty, staff, friends, and corporations help make this possible.
ALUMNI TRAVELING FELLOWSHIP
MFA/BFA graduates of December and May are eligible to compete for the ATFA awarded annually by the Memphis College of Art.
The Fellowship Award of $3,000 is designed to encourage and assist a graduate in some project, including travel, that the graduate thinks will extend and enrich his/her artistic development. Recipients in the past have used the award to visit centers of art such as museums or crafts centers in this country and abroad. The Fellowship is not to be used as payment for enrollment in an art school or university, but recipients have used the Fellowship to study art of some region or of some particular artist or studio.
The Faculty as a whole will decide among the applicants for the Fellowship and the winner will be announced in April. Factors weighing the Faculty’s consideration are:
Each applicant for the Fellowship must write a proposal stating how the Fellowship will be used. The proposal should specify the objective sought, and the method for seeking the objective, the time to be covered by the undertaking and the expected results of the proposed project.
