The Alumni Traveling Fellowship Fund is one way in which Memphis College of Art alumni can foster the growth of students upon graduation. When Director Emeritus Ted Rust established the Alumni Traveling Fellowship Award in 1964, he envisioned the continuation of artistic advancement to graduating seniors by providing monetary assistance sufficient to allow these graduates to travel anywhere in the world. In the past, fellowship funds have been used in many innovative ways – sometimes to visit national centers of art and, oftentimes, to travel abroad – as far away as the inspirational island of Bali – to observe the many different cultures the world has to offer. Each year, the goal of the Memphis College of Art Alumni Association is to raise at least $3,000 for the Alumni Traveling Fellowship. Without benefit of membership fees or dues, the Association has previously relied upon the generosity of its membership and proceeds from special fundraising events. This fund, created and named for MCA alumni, will ensure that future generations of deserving graduating seniors are afforded the opportunity to pursue their artistic dreams and preserve the lasting legacy of this prestigious fellowship.
