David Charles Chioffi is the department head of Graphic Design,
and Chair of Design Arts. A native New Englander, Chioffi's traditional
and experimental work emphasizes the sensory triality of alphabetic matrices
and forms: visual, auditory, and tactile, and principally, on how phonetic
structures and visual architecture formulate and synthesize content. This
is reflected in his presentation and direction of a new Bauhaus methodology
within the systems of graphic design taught at the College.
Professor Chioffi begins his third year at Memphis College of Art as an adopted
Memphian, and continues with his private design practice. Prior posts have
included Executive Vice-President of Design and Communications, and Faculty
Member at The Hospice Institute for Education, Training and Research, Inc.,
Branford, Connecticut; and, Associate Director of Packaging Design and Visual
Identities, Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation, New York City.
