Betty Spence has an MA in English from Memphis State University and a BA in English from Union University. She has taught in Memphis area colleges and high schools for over 25 years. At Memphis College of Art, she teaches writing, chairs the Division of Liberal Studies, and directs the Learning Center.

Also a freelance writer and editor, she has contributed to America Online and edited reports for a Boston real estate appraisal firm. She currently does layout and copy writing for Memphis Acoustic Music Association.
