Betty Spence Assistant Professor Liberal Studies & Director of Writing Center BA, Union University MA, Memphis State University
Betty Spence has taught English for over twenty-five years in the Memphis area, including sixteen years full time in higher education. She presents regularly at national and regional conferences. Her research and teaching interests include the relationship between words and images and teaching writing in an art college as a sub-specialty.
In addition to her years as an educator, Betty Spence has amassed a rich variety of experience outside of traditional academia: freelance writer, editor, and photographer; online writer for a national internet service provider; training consultant for a regional hospital; and instructor for a leading national test preparation company.
